About me
My name is Michael Alejandro Mercuur and I was born on the beautiful island of Curaçao in the Netherlands Antilles. I began my medical studies in the Netherlands as far back as the late 1970's and continue my pursuit of knowledge. I have worked extensively in the Netherlands and the islands of Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, Statia, Saba and Sint Maarten.
My experience spans from working with the Department of Defence in NL, being a Government Physician in St Eustatius, a replacement physician in Saba, an E.R. physician in Curacao, a GP in Aruba, Head of Public Health in Bonaire to running my own medical clinic in St Maarten, to name a few.
Having worked closely with police, prison and the Department of Justice in St Maarten, this spurred my interest to specialize further in Medical Forensics studying under reknowned Professor Dr Barend Cohen, the founder of Forensic Medicine in the Netherlands. The Court of First Instance in Sint Maarten swore me in as Forensic Expert soon after.
My passion for mental health equated itself to being on the founding board of the St Maarten Mental Health Foundation as well as founding member of the St Maarten Physican Association.
Over the course of these years, having the pleasure to work in 6 and live in 5 of the islands, has afforded me a better knowledge & understanding of the cultures & idiosyncrasies each individual island holds. Having this proficiency & insight allows recognition of the variables that exist on each respective island.
Computer geek may be my middle name, being well versed in the latest medical software and having extensive knowledge & experience with local insurance providers, their programs, policies, procedures and best care practices.
